U.S. President Barack Obama Monday telephoned Enrique Peña Nieto, virtual winner of the presidential election in Mexico, to congratulate him on the results of the elections, the White House.
"The two leaders reaffirmed the close
bilateral cooperation that the U.S. and Mexico enjoy based on
mutual respect, shared
responsibility and the
deep relations between
our government," the White House said in a news
release.
U.S. President "reiterated their commitment to work together with Mexico and hopes to advance common goals, including promoting democracy, economic prosperity and security in the region and around the world in the coming years," said the office Obama.
The president also congratulated the Mexicans "have once
again demonstrated its
commitment to
democratic values through a
process of free,
fair and
transparent."
According to data from the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP), the
PRI is virtual Enrique Peña Nieto won Mexico's presidential election, with 38.01% so far.
